Google Assistant is being removed from phones: date announced

Google’s plan is a staged transition, not an instant global shutdown. From 4 September 2026, Google Assistant will begin giving way to Gemini on eligible Android phones, tablets and some paired devices. Products such as Google Home and TV are treated separately.

For users, routines, voice commands, account permissions and device support matter as much as the app name. Existing routines and third-party connections should be checked before the transition. This is a phased product migration, not every device turning off on the same day.
