The move from Google Assistant to Gemini: what changes on mobile?
Google is gradually moving the Assistant experience to Gemini on most mobile devices; the official announcement does not set one global shutdown date.
Representative editorial image · Not a real team photoGoogle’s official 14 March 2025 announcement says the mobile Assistant experience will move to Gemini over the following months and that classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices later in the year. It does not announce one definitive 4 September global shutdown date for every phone.
Timing can vary by device eligibility, country, language and product category. Users should review routines, connected devices, account permissions and Gemini support for their own device. This is therefore reported as a phased product transition, not a same-day shutdown of every phone.
